WELCOME MESSAGE FROM UNSUI

In 2009, Jinenkan Dojocho Adam Mitchell opened the new location for the New York Jinenkan Dojo. His teacher wrote a letter to the students of the Dojo and an explanation of the name he had chosen for it.

アダム道場の皆さんへ

日本では昔から何か芸事を学ぶ時、一番大事なことは、一流の先生を選ぶことと言われています。その意味で皆さんは非常に良い先生を選んだと思います。アダム先生は、公平で、思いやりがあり、正義感に強く、勇気もあります。アダム先生を信じ、教えられたことをしっかりと身に付けて立派な人になってください。

私は、人は死ぬ時に「私は満足でした。皆さん有難う。」と言って死ねることが最高な人生だと思っています。また、やらずに後悔するよりは、やって後悔する方がはるかに素晴らしいと思います。

どうか、皆さん最後まで続けてください。継続は力です。

To the members of Adam’s Dojo,

Historically, in Japan, when one goes about learning any kind of art, an “ichi ryū” or top level Sensei would be selected. With this in mind I feel that you all have chosen an extremely good Sensei. Adam Sensei is fair, considerate, has a strong sense of justice and possesses bravery. Please trust in Adam Sensei, and if you firmly ingrain his teachings into your body, you will become a great person.

For myself, when a person’s time to die comes, being able to say “I am satisfied, thank you everyone” is the highest attainment of one’s life. In addition, I feel that it is much better to do and then regret it rather than not do and regret that inaction. Consider this, if you will, and please continue to the end. Continuation is power.
